Being a government owned company not so long ago and the only telecommunications player in Botswana until 1996, BTC still possesses the most modern infrastructure in Africa even after opening of the market to the competitors – private Mascom Wireless and Orange. This factor played for sure a positive role in the development of the telecommunications sphere in Botswana as a lot has been done for expanding the network across the country by laying additional cables in order to bring the new technologies over there and to allow its citizens and expatriates to keep pace with the rapidly developing and competitive world.
In 2001 BTC launched its mobile arm be Mobile which remains however the third operator in Botswana proposing various prepaid schemas for GSM calls and SMS, for 3G and 4G/LTE data bundles. BTC beMobile coverage especially with 4G/LTE is considered to be the best right now in Botswana. Still one cannot expect such coverage if he/she heads out from towns or villages or the main highways. Depending on the area you may not have any coverage at all not speaking of just BTC beMobile poor reception! Nothing at all, not a slightest signal!
